Central Park West Apartment

New York, New York

After more than two decades in the home, our clients undertook a comprehensive renovation to better reflect the way they live today. Longtime art collectors, they envisioned a residence where architecture and artwork could exist in conversation with one another, allowing their collection to play a more prominent role in daily life.

From the moment of arrival, the design establishes a dialogue between architecture and artwork. Bookmatched marble floors and a lacquered ceiling capture and reflect natural light, while a framed architectural opening draws the eye toward a carefully considered focal point beyond. Throughout the home, the architecture was intentionally restrained, allowing the collection to become part of the experience of moving through the space.

The living room reflects the balance found throughout the apartment: a respect for the building's prewar architecture paired with a more contemporary sensibility. Custom niches flanking the fireplace create dedicated moments for the collection, while curved furnishings, graphic patterned area rug, and sculptural forms bring movement and visual interest to the space.

Wrapped in lacquered paneling and a Deco-inspired wallcovering, the dining room embraces a more atmospheric mood. Integrated seamlessly into the millwork, a concealed bar remains hidden until needed, lending the room a sense of discovery. Rich materials and reflective surfaces create depth and dimension, making the space feel both intimate and memorable.

Designed as a place for the husband to work and retreat, the den introduces a more intimate mood within the home. Nearby, the powder room was completely reimagined, transforming a utilitarian space into a distinct design moment.

The primary bedroom offers a softer counterpoint to the apartment's entertaining spaces. Hand-painted and embroidered silk wallcovering carries throughout the room, creating a sense of retreat. Mirrored panels flanking the bed reflect natural light deeper into the space, enhancing its luminous and airy atmosphere.

Clad in marble from floor to ceiling, the primary bathroom embraces materiality in its purest form. The continuity of stone creates a sense of calm and permanence, transforming everyday rituals into a more immersive experience.
